Garden of Hope

Posted on May 19, 2009. Filed under: Projects |

By Merlin Gonzales, President, Faith Hope and Love

There are many stagnant, vacant lands in our city. A question was asked, ‘What if we turn the vacant land into farming and gardening?’ GardenHopeThis question stirred many hearts in our city.

Last summer, many volunteers gathered in Fortville, IN and provided raised garden beds in the neighborhoods. Earlier this year, Faith Hope and Love (FHL) partnered with the refugees to cultivate the gardens in Fortville. On Monday, the 10th of May, the refugees farmers harvested their first crop.

Recently, FHL partnered with Midwest Food Bank in cultivating an acre of land next to the food bank. The idea was to turn the land into a small farming site. The Chin people (Burmese) agreed to provide labor in exchange of sharing the harvest of the land.

There were numerous people in attendance among them are Merlin Gonzales, President of Faith Hope and Love, Ralph Taylor, International Affairs Coordinator for the Indianapolis Mayor’s Office, John Whitaker, Executive Director of Midwest Food Bank and Pastor Bhawerain of the Chin people.

In the next few days, FHL will be offering opportunities to adopt hens at the Fortville farm.  You can adopt a hen for $10 one time investment and $4 every month for feed. In return, the sponsors will benefit by receivingMenFarm fresh farm eggs on a monthly basis and can experience being a farmer.

If you are interested in being part of the FHL initiatives, please call 317-578-3370 for more information.

It is said that unemployment is about 10%. What if the 90% of the population who are blessed with a job provide incentive and encouragement for the 10% unemployed who want and need a loving and dignified assist?  Our job framework has shrunk so it can’t support everyone with a job at this time. So being out of work is not always a choice these days.

Faith Hope and Love Mother’s Day Celebration 2009

Posted on May 18, 2009. Filed under: Kindness Weekends | Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

By Merlin Gonzales, President, Faith Hope and Love (FHL International, Inc.)

Faith Hope and Love (FHL) joined the Mother’s Day Celebration presented by La Voz de Indiana on Saturday, May 9th. The celebration included FHL MobMomDayFaceile Food Pantry, which provided groceries to more than 1000 people. It was truly a collaborative pantry, including many volunteers from different cultures of the world, such as Hispanics, Asians and Europeans. The FHL Mobile Food Pantry is a monthly service that is held at different parts of the city to reach out those who cannot travel far and to encourage the active participation of local communities. The food pantry is joined by churches, businesses, government and education institutions in serving the least, the lost and the last. You are encouraged to serve with FHL by volunteering or by sponsoring families. Your contribution of $15 will feed a family of 5 for a day.

Earlier the same day, as part of the Mother’s Day celebration, Faith Hope and Love provided free oil changes at four Indianapolis locations: Post Road Christian Church on the east side, Chapel Rock Christian Church on the west, and Hubler Express Collision in the North and South locations. More than 100 single moms received free oil changes. Through this community outreach, many volunteers were thankful that their passion was used to serve others. FHL is now looking for volunteers who like to do routine maintenance and minor repair on vehicles. FHL is expanding its car ministry to 4 locations in Indianapolis.

In addition to food pantry and oil changes, the FHL Street Evangelism team shared the Gospel in the 10th Street/RuralMomDayLine area. As a result, an individual at a bus stop accepted the Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. The individuals involved in this team have been preaching the gospel in the local area for more than 2 years now.

Faith Hope and Love partnered with the Pacer Entertainment–Indiana Fever WNBA to provided indoor entertainment to the disadvantaged families and their friends. FHL is asking the community to sponsor children for the game at Conseco Fieldhouse on June 27th 7pm. A ticket is $14, which includes entrance to the game, vouchers for a free hotdog, a bag of chips, a drink and a t-shirt. Contact FHL at 317-578-3370 for information in sponsoring the disadvantaged.

A Great Week For FHL: ESL Classes, Lamb’s Farm Planting, City-Wide Prayer, Mobile Food Pantry and FHL Week 2009 Planning

Posted on March 22, 2009. Filed under: Projects | Tags: , , , , , |

merlin

Hello everyone,

It’s been a great week.

We had the Fishers Area churches (FHL Week 2009) meeting at Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, NW area and Greenwood areas. They were attended by several churches and are now planning to meet again in the next few weeks. The week of 3/22, Nora-Castleton and Carmel areas will meet for FHL Week 2009 vision-casting.

The FHL Lamb’s Farm was cultivated and we planted seeds on several gardelambsfarm11n plots. The Burmese Refugees adopted the gardens. Later the same day, the Lord provided almost 30 jobs for these refugees at Heartland Growers through FHL connections. It is possible that we may have a few more acres to raise vegetables in the near future.

FHL’s ESL (English as a Second Language) has expanded to a Chic-Fil-A restaurant located in the Clearwater area. We will be teaching basic English to the employees at 86th St restaurant starting the first week of April.

team1On the 21st of March, FHL Mobile Food Pantry was held at Arlington High School.  We had more than 100 volunteers including the Arlington High School Baseball Team.  We served more than 150 families from several different nationalities including Iraquis, Burmese, and Hispanics. Food was abundantly shared with people but the main focus was the relationships we built with each other.  To help these ones build a relationship with their heavenly Father, we also had a ‘Prayer Tent’ inside the building.

Next weekend, 3/28, we will have a ‘Prayer Tent’ at a vacant lot at 10th/Rural from 10a-2p. Through April 2 – 4 is FHL’s Kindness Weekend at Bread of Life in Avon, IN.  We will be giving away clothes provided by the church. On 4/4, the 3rd FHL city-wide prayer meeting will be held at Bread of Life starting at 7:30pm.

I am so blessed to be part of this ministry. I have the privilege of witnessing what God is doing in our community. Thank you so much for coming alongside FHL in serving the least, the lost and last.  If you have not been to any of the FHL events, try to come to the next few; you’ll witness what God is doing through FHL ministry.

Hope to see everyone at the Outback Luncheon on 3/25; it’s going to be awesome!

God bless,
Merlin

A Message From the President of Faith, Hope and Love, International- Merlin Gonzales

“The Hope within You, Living from the Inside Out” is not just a pretty phrase. It is real! With the nation’s economic challenges also come the false hopes that many instill in the minds of people. Many are told that hope is found in the government, companies or other external sources. Although these have influences in our society, you and I can have an even greater impact by transforming our communities. John 17:22-23, “I have given them (the disciples and the generations to come) the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” This means that we have the Spirit of God within us, and we have the most powerful thing at our disposal: Love. 1 Corinthians 13: 13, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Everything will disappear in this world, but no one can take away the love within you and me. The God within us is our hope, and the Love within us can change the world.

You and I are given the tremendous opportunity to transform this generation through sharing the hope within us and by Living from the Inside Out“.

Community needs are growing while community resources are dwindling…

The weakening economy has created increasing hardship for many people from all walks of life. Your financial support for this Luncheon will help over 500 families that FHL International, Inc.regularly serves throughout the year. Your participation in this luncheon will help the FHL Mobile Food Pantry and you will also enjoy some delicious food yourselves provided by the Outback Steakhouse. While you are with us at the Outback, you will hear an extraordinary testimonial of hope from Al Gibson, President of Crown Coating.

Please come join us! Thank you, Merlin

WHY: To raise awareness of the ‘Hope within us’ and to benefit the Mobile Food Pantry serving 500+ families in metropolitan Indianapolis.

WHERE: Outback Steakhouse 86th/Michigan St Indianapolis

WHEN: Wed. March 25 11:30a-1p

FHL Update: New Prayer Groups, ESL Classes, and Kindness Weekends

Posted on October 18, 2008. Filed under: Kindness Weekends, Prayer Groups, Projects | Tags: , , , , , , , |

A few weeks ago, during the Transform Indiana meeting, FHL shared an idea of forming and empowering prayer groups in Indianapolis. If we could agree to pray together and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts, Christians in Indy would be more open to work together. After only 2 meetings, several prayer facilitators agreed to work together to provide 24/7 prayer groups around the city. We feel that there will be more exciting news to come about this development . If you are interested in getting involved with this group, please contact info@fhlinternatonal.org

Several months ago, Merlin Gonzales, FHL CEO, was approached by 21-year old volunteer of FHL International, Inc. regarding leading an English as Second Language (ESL) Class . He asked her to wait until the FHL Week (and the many FHL-related projects) were over. So she approached him again a few weeks later. After many prayers and much planning, the first ESL Class was launched on Thursday, Oct. 16th with 20 students.

The FHL Kindness Weekend in Castleton will be held on Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 18 & 19. There will be dozens of volunteers from various organizations who will be serving the community unconditionally. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact info@fhlinternatonal.org

Faith, Hope, and Love, International, Inc. is dedicated to transforming our city, one neighborhood at a time.

Simple ABC’s of Ministry

Posted on October 18, 2008. Filed under: Ministry | Tags: |

Identify needs and identify resources. From the very start of the ministry that God had me started, the ministry had been focused on 2 items: Needs and Resources. So I contacted several pastors and community leaders and asked them to meet together to identify those 2 items in our community. We came up with less than a dozen projects, mobilized 7 churches and inspired 200+ volunteers to serve unconditionally. What turned out to be just a one-time ‘local mission’ became an international ministry within 3 years. The concept (which is not new) is now adopted as far as Cartagena, Colombia.

Join in with what God is doing (and with others who has the heart to transform our community).  Two quick stories….

Southport Presbyterian Church (SPC) was looking for additional projects for their youth. I hooked them up with Jerome Jorman to paint his newly purchased house to be used as ‘Group Home’ and with David Woodrupp to paint a house of an elderly near the urban area. The result: 2 houses were painted and several changed lives.

Northview Christian Life Church in Carmel was looking for additional projects to mobilize their congregation (see www.nvcl.org for more info on Life on Loan). I contacted the city of Indianapolis Neighborhood Liaison Office and shared with them the opportunity. They came up with projects, hooked them up with Northview. On the 18th & 19th, dozens of volunteers will be helping our city unconditionally.

Identification, connection and mobilization. Identify the needs and resources and connecting them through mobilization of the community. Simple ABC’s of Ministry…

FHL Update: Kindness Weekend – Faith Is Renewed, Hope Is Nurtured, and Love Is In Action In Our City!

Posted on October 29, 2008. Filed under: Kindness Weekends | Tags: , , , , , , |

With a heart filled with faith, hope, and love, mountains can be moved and work made light. The Lord’s workers proved the truth of that by offering themselves throughout a very busy weekend for FHL International on several projects.

Kindness Weekend for October 18th and 19th began with prayer outside the new FHL International corporate offices located in Castleton! There were over 30 volunteers working in four shifts from Northview Christian Life who worked not only on the FHL office, but the entire complex. They picked up trash, raked leaves, cleaned windows and worked on the inside of the new FHL corporate offices. The Northview Christian Life volunteers also completed several other projects throughout Indianapolis, all under the direction and coordination of FHL International.

Over 80 volunteers from Northview cleaned up 6 blocks of the 25th and Dearborn neighborhood and several volunteers through BRAG cleaned up the Binford and 71st neighborhood.

FHL was also blessed by our Lord with the means to provide frozen food to Living Water Ministries. Edward Figueroa and his wife, Gena, have literally, over the past 5-6 years, provided shelter in their own home to over 500 homeless people!

Many people were blessed this weekend by the loving hands of their neighbors. As, Merlin Gonzales, Founder of FHL International, Inc. said: “Truly, faith is renewed, hope is nurtured and love is in action in our city!”. Praise the Lord!

If you want to become a Faith, Hope, and Love volunteer and work on a ‘mission trip in your own backyard’, please contact info@fhlinternational.org or call 317-372-0371. Faith, Hope and Love, International, Inc. will be hosting another Kindness Weekend this Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Merry’s Bakery, (317 624-9057) located at 456 N. Holmes Ave, Indianapolis, IN. GoogleMaps: Merry’s Bakery Directions

Volunteers are asked to come at 1:oopm to help set-up and stay till 5pm. Food will be given away from 3pm until supplies last.

FHL International, Inc. prays thanksgiving to our Lord for His provision and wishes to extend our warm thanks to Merry’s Bakery for providing us the warmth of the restaurant on such a cold day. Because of their hospitality and generosity there will be plenty of time to talk and share our love for them and of the Christ and the Good News with many of our neighbors who need nourishing spiritual encouragement.

If you want to volunteer and be spiritually refreshed while refreshing others, please contact Merlin Gonzales at (317) 578-3370 or email us at info@fhlinternational.org

Bring your hearts and your hands to reach out in love to our neighbors. And if you are unable to come, we welcome your prayers for us! And your prayers for our city, its citizens and their needs.

Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’

Matthew 25:37:40

2008-the “Year of Love” for FHL International, Inc. and its Mission to our City

Posted on December 20, 2008. Filed under: Ministry | Tags: , , , , , , , , |

nativity3FHL International, Inc. has opened its heart to allow the Lord to work through us in lavishing Indianapolis with love throughout the 2008 year. Through the Mobile Food Pantry, Kindness Days, ESL, Alpha Classes and FHL International Inc.’s signature event-‘FHL Week’, thousands of individuals were served.

God is doing mighty things through FHL International, Inc. in spite of the current economic conditions. I think the Lord birthed Faith, Hope and Love, International, Inc. during the boom in 2005 as part of our preparation for the current recession.

As I was sharing a vision with one of our partners about using their facilities as a storehouse, someone mentioned how the Lord had used Joseph during the famine in Egypt. Please read Genesis Chapter 41 to see how God prepared Joseph to build store houses around Egypt. This has been the vision of FHL-not to build a conglomerate ministry but a network of centers to work together towards the common good for local areas and their needs. This is what I mean about “building communities of faith, hope, and love around the world.”

Please read Acts Chapter 2, also. The current economic condition is a wake-up call to our churches and ministries to bannerimagelgstart working more closely together (See our future article: 2009 is the ‘Year of Hope’.) With the addition of Cars Ministry and the employment of Bill Farrar as Missions Director, FHL is now poised to expand instead of shrink in these tough economic times, leveraging our god-given resources and talents in serving others rather than using them for self-preservation. Jesus said, to “seek first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness and everything will be added unto you.”

We just need to be reminded of the second Greatest Commandment – love God and others, Mark 12:29-31, “30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[b] 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[c]There is no commandment greater than these.”

I give glory to God who provided FHL International, Inc. so much. As you have read and heard on the news, countless food pantries are drying up but FHL International, Inc. is now receiving much more than any other time in its existence. God’s economy cannot be explained by human intellect and reasoning. This is the time to have more faith and to rely more on God’s provision rather than men’s wisdom and intellect. (Psalm 146:3)

christmas-boxSomeone said “You cannot out-give God” and it has resonated through FHL International, Inc. throughout the 2008 year. 2009 is the Year of Hope. As vessels of hope, you and I can be conduits of God’s grace and come along side Him in giving hope to our neighbors. As 2008 come to a close, it is not too late to bless others through your prayers and tax deductible contributions. When you consider your year-end giving, please keep FHL International, Inc. in mind.

Please send your contribution to:

FHL International, Inc.
8383 Craig St Ste. 335,
Indianapolis, IN 46250

On behalf of FHL International, Inc., its staff and volunteers, we wish you a Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year.

God bless,

Merlin Gonzales

President, FHL International, Inc.

FHL City-Wide (Indianapolis) Prayer Initiative: Saturday, January 24, 2009

fhl-logo-with-swirl-background-jpeg1Greetings!

I’m writing to invite you to a very important time of prayer that is being held Saturday, January 24th from 7pm-9pm at Providence Ministries which is located at 1602 East 34th St., Indianapolis, IN 46218.

FHL International, Inc. (Faith, Hope, and Love International)
was established as a means to strengthen the work of the local church by providing opportunities for local congregations and ministries to lock arms in service to the city and communities of Greater Indianapolis. Today, we recognize and feel the urgent need to respond and join in with the Lord’s command to “pray without ceasing” and we are partnering with God and His people to do just that.
Jeremiah 29:7 says, “If there is no welfare (peace) in the city to which you have been exiled, pray for the welfare (peace) of that city, and you  too will have welfare (peace).”

Through various means over the past few years, God has initiated hundreds across this area to begin to pray for the welfare of our city and our nation.    As a result, prayer ministries have sprang up all over the city; giving believers multiple opportunities to come together in prayer. The FHL City-Wide (Indianapolis) Prayer Initiative is yet another small but critical piece to the ongoing work of helping to strengthen our city and push back the darkness through prayer. Our desire is to host a multi-cultural, multi-denominational, inter-generational prayer meeting on a monthly basis where various individuals, churches, ministries, and organizations come together under the banner of Jesus Christ to beseech God on behalf of our city. We recognize the power of corporate prayer and know that unity in prayer is the prerequisite for God releasing His justice and revival in our streets.
FOCUS:REVIVAL/REPENTANCE –

  3. Indianapolis Communities

  4. Indianapolis Culture/Society, Business (Marketplace), Education, Government, Family

  5. Indianapolis Churches, Ministries, Pastors/Ministers

Do you have any specific prayer requests or suggestions for prayer covering? If so, we would love to hear from you do feel free to email those to me as well as to forward this announcement to those that you feel would be interested in participating. Will you join with us in changing the spiritual climate of our city, preparing our hearts, and ushering in the breakthrough of God for an entire region through prayer?
Your Servant,
Jonathan Tremaine Thomas
Interim FHL Prayer Director, FHL International, Inc.
